Strangely enough, the word doesn’t appear in the old Testament, however in the New Testament, Jesus famously utters, “You cannot serve both God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24). Here, Mammon embodies an excessive focus on material gain, presented as an obstacle on the path to spiritual fulfillment.

Over time, interpretations of Mammon evolved. Medieval writers often personified Mammon as a demon or even a false god, representing the corrupting influence of materialism. This depiction cemented Mammon’s place as a symbol of avarice and greed.

In The Magus (1801), Francis Barrett says, “Moreover, the tempters and ensnarers have the last place; one of which is present with every man, which we call the evil genius, and their prince is Mammon, which is interpreted covetousness.” Barrett is referring to the nine degrees or nine orders of Angels that some scholars divide the evil spirits into, and that the ninth degree belongs to Mammon.

Collin de Plancy writes in Dictionnaire Infernal (1863) that Mammon is the Hell’s Ambassador to England and that he is “demon of Avarice: that is the place, who, according to Milton, was the first to teach men to tear the bosom of the earth to dig out the riches.”

Today, Mammon retains its religious connotations but also finds application in secular contexts. When someone prioritizes wealth above all else, they are said to be “worshipping Mammon.”

Mammon reminds us of the complex relationship between humanity and material possessions. Wealth itself is not evil, but the obsessive pursuit of it can be. The idea of Mammon serves as a cautionary tale, urging us to find a healthy balance between our material needs and spiritual goals.

Mammon should be worked with when you have a business that you want to take to next level. His approach is incredibly effective, however you need to be prepared for a roller coaster ride as he will rearrange your life and business in order to reach that goal as quickly as possible, and he isn’t gentle about it. He has absolutely no care in the world how painful the process will be for you, you asked, he delivers, how you got there isn’t his concern.

On Jehannum’s blog, he states, “Mammon is the Lord of Autumn and King of the Abyss. He is the Monarch of Rain, the Sire of the Flame, and the Dominator of our Plane. He’s a cunning draconic spirit and he doesn’t take shit from anyone.” And also that “Mammon rules over ice, greed, wealth, avarice, prosperity, luck, riches, sex, ambition, aggression, and the lust for money.” I personally found that after doing an invocation with Mammon, that he really likes traditional Native American music. The beat gets him going and when working through you, this helps to provide momentum with all that needs to be done.

Correspondences:Colours: Purple, Grey Mixed with Light BlueElement: Earth or FirePlanet: Jupiter, Jehannum states Venus Illegitima (Dark Aspect of Venus)Other: Devil’s Claw, Bloodroot, Patchouli, Hemlock, Calamus, …

[1

post-152","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
