There do go before him his Ministers with great Trumpets sounding. His Office is to teach Philosophy perfectly, and to constrain Souls of the Deceased to come before the Exorcist to answer those questions which he may wish to put to them, if desired.”

Murmur is a powerful choice where formal necromancy is concerned. Use him to:

Teach rigorous philosophical and theoretical frameworks. He’s a strict, effective tutor for serious study.

Constrain or summon the dead to answer questions in a controlled way; he can keep a communicating spirit from overstaying or harming the living in possession-type channel sessions.

Strengthen the astral double, deepen spirit communication, and provide protection around openings to the Otherworld when working with difficult entities.

If you run channelling or trance-possession work, Murmur can act as the muscle that keeps things orderly — an enforcer who makes spirits behave and depart when instructed. For ancestral work, he can be used to prevent loose, hungry, or hostile shades from clinging to the living.

Sources disagree on personality and temperament. Some occult authors portray Murmur as aggressive and intimidating (a proper martial necromancer), while others describe him as courtly, even gentlemanly. Expect either sternness or gruff benevolence depending on the practitioner and the interaction. He’s not a spirit for dabblers: approaches should be disciplined, prepared and sober.

Etymologically and symbolically, his name links to many sound-words: murmur, hum, rustle — which suits his trumpeting procession and sonic presence in ritual. Some folklore threads connect him to lamia/ghoul-type beings; others frame him as an ascended death-master (again, many layers and cultural overlays here).

The griffin ride and martial imagery mark Murmur as liminal and vigilantly protective: the griffin blends aerial sight with chthonic force. Trumpets and ministers suggest public procession, announcement, and the movement of souls. Where other spirits soften or soothe, Murmur enforces. The imagery implies not only command over death but also authority in transmission — teaching the living how to manage the dead.

Work with Murmur only if you’re experienced with necromancy, or if you’re supervised by someone who is. He is not a gentle beginner spirit.

Pair him with guardians at thresholds (doorway sentries) when doing mediumship or group channel work, to prevent parasitic or unfriendly entities from slipping through.

Prepare protocols for release: clearly state the end of an engagement and command spirits to depart — Murmur will respect ritual authority, but you must show it.

Be careful with emotional expectations: some sources emphasise his blunt, no-nonsense manner; don’t fetishise cinematic drama. Keep discipline and clear boundaries.

Murmur is one of the Goetia’s heavy-hitters for necromancy: a teacher of depth, a commander of the dead, and a steward for rigorous spirit work. If you need a firm hand at the doorway of the dead — someone who will make the dead answer and then leave — Murmur is the right spirit. He’s not for emotional dabbling or casual curiosity; he rewards preparedness, discipline and respect.

Correspondences:Dates: 12–22 SeptemberDirection: NorthTarot: Ten of PentaclesPlanet: VenusMetal: CopperElements: Earth, Water, Fire (primary: Water in some sources)Colour: GreenPlant: Parsley; Incense: SandalwoodZodiac: 20°–30° VirgoOther: Iron, gold, …

[1

post-379","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
