From the Goetia:
<\/strong>“…appeareth in the form of a Lion, riding upon a Horse Mighty and Strong, with a Serpent\u2019s Tail; and he holdeth in his Right Hand two Great Serpents hissing. His Office is to teach the Virtues of the Stars, and to know the Mansions of the Planets, and how to understand their Virtues. He also transformeth Men, and he giveth Dignities, Prelacies, and Confirmation thereof; also Favour with Friends and with Foes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orias is a complex spirit whose imagery and powers bring together themes of astrology, transformation, and the balance of opposing forces. He appears in the Ars Goetia<\/em> with a striking form and is associated with both physical and spiritual transformation, particularly in strengthening willpower and aligning with the higher self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orias is often approached as a teacher of astrology and planetary magic, but his influence also extends into personal transformation. Connolly describes him as a \u201cpersonal trainer for the willpower\u201d\u2014a spirit who supports not the act of physical training itself but the willpower needed to commit to and follow through on such goals. The horse, too, carries dual associations with both solar and lunar symbolism, embodying life and death, swiftness and strength. The serpent tail suggests judgement, balance, and the entwining force of nature. The two serpents in his hand can be read as the caduceus, representing polarity and the union of opposites: healing and poison, health and disease, destruction and restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, Orias embodies the reconciliation of opposites, light and dark, solar and lunar, higher and lower, bringing them into balance within the magician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
