ENN: Ayer Avage Aloren Asmoday Aken
From the Goetia: “He appeareth with Three Heads, whereof the first is like a Bull, the second like a Man, and the third like a Ram; he hath also the tail of a Serpent, and from his mouth issue Flames of Fire. His Feet are webbed like those of a Goose. He sitteth upon an Infernal Dragon, and beareth in his hand a Lance with a Banner. He is first and choicest under the power of AMAYMON, he goeth before all other. When the Exorcist hath a mind to call him, let it be abroad, and let him stand on his feet all the time of action, with his Cap or Head-dress off; for if it be on, AMAYMON will deceive him and cause all his actions to be bewrayed. But as soon as the Exorcist seeth Asmoday in the shape aforesaid, he shall call him by his Name, saying: “Art thou Asmoday?” and he will not deny it, and by-and-by he will bow down unto the ground. He given the Ring of Virtues; he teacheth the Arts of Arithmetic, Astronomy, Geometry, and all handicrafts absolutely. He giveth true and full answers unto thy demands. He maketh one Invincible. He showeth the place where Treasures lie, and guardeth it.”
To begin with, Connolly says that some believe Asmoday is one of the three heads of the Asmodai image in Collin de Plancy’s Dictionnaire Infernal, the others being Amaimon and Amdusias. Now the interesting thing here is if we go to Connolly’s The Infernal Colopatiron, specifically in reference to Ellen Purswell’s ascension formula, the three heads or three faces of Asmodai are Asmodeus, Amdusias and Asmoday. So there is a bit of a difference here in Connolly’s work itself.
She also says that some believe Asmoday is equal to Asmodeus, a demon of lust and passion. Asmoday can be worked with to make the magician physically strong and mentally sharp. Now the interesting thing here is that when I invoked Asmodeus, and I was using the sigil and the enn for Asmoday, but specifically aiming towards Asmodeus, the energy that came through was very potent and very powerful. It felt like I had all of the strength in the world. At the same time it filled me with lust. I was literally walking around, lust filled, for about two weeks after doing that invocation.
When we think of lust, we think purely of just sexual passion and satisfying ourselves. But that energy, which is lust, is incredibly powerful. It makes you feel like you can take on the world. That’s the energy that we’re talking about here, and often when we talk about magical energy, it usually comes from the pelvic area and rises up. It can often be confused as being sexual energy. You’ll see it mentioned here and there where people talk about raising magical energy. It felt so sexual, it felt so lustful. It’s because its energy, which is coming into the body and, as I said, it usually starts in the pelvic area, especially if you look into things like kundalini.
Kundalini has had that bad rap of being purely focused on sexuality and it’s not, it’s just that the energy starts in the pelvic area and it awakens that whole area, which then makes it feel like it’s sexual energy and lust. So even though you do feel lust full and Asmodeus is considered to be a lust Daemon, that energy itself is what you use for that mental clarity and the feeling of physical strength and the feeling of power that the energy actually gives you. So, make sure you aren’t confusing one type of energy for another because they feel the same.
Then into Jehannum, where he mentions Aeshma, being another name for Asmoday, Asmodeus, Asmodeus, etc. originated in Zoroastrian lore, as the Daeva (Ahrimanic spirit) of the Bloodied Mace, who has given authority over seven great methods of causing destruction (he no longer serves Ahriman).
Jehannum says in Kabbalah he is Asmodeus, the Fiend of the Wounding Spear, the son of either Tubal-Qayin or Ashamdon with Na’amah (who he married). I did also find that in translation, Asmodeus is from ancient Greek, whereas the Hebrew is Ashmedai, but that might just be semantics.
Jehannum goes on to mention that in Abrahamic demonology he is a spirit of lust, lechery, luxury and gambling. There is mention of him being the manager of Hell’s Gambling Hall. Rules over the physical aspects of life, violence, lust, prosperity, luck, knowledge, power, revenge, love, warriorhood and aggression. And it’s suggested that you use sex magic techniques such as karezza are most appropriate for working with Asmodeus.
Karezza means caress in Italian (caressa), and karezza is mostly aimed at men. It’s the practice of bringing yourself to the edge of orgasm, but not ejaculating. What is also called edging.
In the Book of Tobit it mentions: hostile towards Sarah and slays seven successive husbands on their wedding night, so they couldn’t consummate the marriages and when Tobias proposes to marry her, he is to meet the same fate, however, with the help of the Archangel Raphael, by placing a fish’s heart and liver on red hot cinders, Asmodeus flees to Egypt, where Rafael binds him.
In the Talmud he’s not such a bad guy, except possibly concerning his desire for Bathsheba. Bathsheba was King Solomon’s mother, and then later his wives. One legend, specifically in regards to the Testament of Solomon is that Solomon forces Asmodeus into the construction of the Temple of Jerusalem, forcing him into servitude, weakening him by iron and forcing him to carry ten water jugs to make clay by treading it. Another legend has him throwing Solomon over 400 leagues away from the capital by putting one wing on the ground and the other stretched skyward. He changed places with Solomon. Here we find Asmodeus shapeshifting into Solomon and acted as the king for a few months. However, when Solomon returned, he fled. Solomon banished him into a rock. Elsewhere, he marries Lilith. He becomes his queen, and he is also considered to be king of the Jinn.
In the Testament of Solomon, Asmodeus claims that he is born of a human mother and an Angel father. In Kabbalah and the school of Shlomo ibn Aderet, he is a cambian, which is an offspring of an incubus, succubus, or other demon with a human, and is said to be born from the union of Agrat bat Mahlat and King David.
