From the Goetia:
“…appearing in the Form of a Mighty Bull with Gryphon’s Wings. This is at first, but after, at the Command of the Exorcist he putteth on Human Shape. His Office is to make Men wise, and to instruct them in divers things; also to Transmute all Metals into Gold; and to change Wine into Water, and Water into Wine.”

The symbolism in the Goetia is unmistakably alchemical. Connolly interprets Haagenti as a force of transformation, able to take what is ordinary or negative and change it into something extraordinary. In her words, “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

Corwin Hargrove adds a similar emphasis, listing Haagenti’s strengths as assisting with personal change, removing fear, and breaking habits, all pointing again to transformation and inner alchemy.

The Goetia Ritual elaborates on the symbolism: the bull, representing raw generative force, is elevated by the griffin’s wings towards wisdom and enlightenment. This union creates the Voyager: one who embraces the ever-changing universe with all its contradictions, finding fortune through synthesis.

It’s worth underlining that when we talk about alchemy here, it’s not just about laboratories, alembics, and turning lead into gold. Spiritual alchemy is about the human condition itself. Haagenti’s influence can help us look at our habits, flaws, and so-called weaknesses, and instead of simply eradicating them, transform them into something new—something useful, powerful, or even beautiful.

Not every “bad habit” needs to be cut away. Sometimes it can be re-shaped into a tool. What one person considers a vice may become another’s strength. Haagenti teaches us to see beyond rigid categories of “bad” and “good,” to view transformation as a spectrum of possibilities.

This spirit invites us to work with the raw materials of our lives—our fears, habits, even our perceived failures—and refine them into wisdom, resilience, and self-mastery. In short, Haagenti helps us move from the ordinary to the extraordinary, from lead to gold, both within and without.
