From the Goetia: “He is a Mighty President and Earl, and showeth himself in the form of a Dog with Wings like a Gryphon. He teacheth all Arts and Sciences in an instant, and is an Author of Bloodshed and Manslaughter. He teacheth all things Past, and to Come. If desired he causeth the love both of Friends and of Foes. He can make a Man to go Invisible.”
There tend to be two groups of people when it comes to Glasya-Labolas. The one tend to focus on the whole bloodshed and manslaughter thing and the other focuses more on the Arts and Sciences.
If we have a look at Connolly, she mentions keeping what you are doing a secret, which is part of invisibility. Hiding your actions, projects, etc. can make you wise to what is really going on around you without tipping off your friends and enemies. Can work for execration or binding, but this doesn’t seem to be a focus.
Jehannum also says that Glasya helps the witch develop a tolerance for specific substances. Author of bloodshed and manslaughter. He mentions that Asher Shedim calls him the Master of Homicide, terrorism and mass shootings. Goes on to say that he can teach the witch to transform into a cold and calculating huntress, which is part of cunning. Also brings about peace and love between people. Here we have the opposite aspect again. Impart the power to dominate someone, improve agility and physical fitness, make you into a hunter or a warrior.
The Goetia Ritual mentions regarding the symbolism of the dog, that it is fidelity, watchfulness and nobility, role of keeper of boundaries between worlds, in Jungian terms, between the conscious mind and its unconscious shadow, so it can act as a psychopomp, assisting with descending into the magician’s shadowy underworld. That I feel is a bit more akin to Naberius and therefore Cerberus.
In comparison, Connolly is stating that he can make you wise to what is really going on around you without tipping off your friends and enemies. So, when it comes to the whole bloodshed and manslaughter aspect, we have this warring aspect and this brings into mind the enemies that we may have. Also cause of the love of both friends and of foes. So again, we have the manslaughter or fighting the enemies, but we have the opposite again, where we can actually bring friends and foes together. This all comes into the whole aspect of cunning, of being the hunter and being the warrior, where we have the invisibility aspect, keeping things secret as well. Try and imagine where you have some kind of scenario where you have a group of people and they’re all fighting amongst each other or they’re attacking you in some way. Instead of reacting to that, you become cunning and you figure out how to actually get around the situation and make it to your best benefit, bringing friends and foes together, making them love each other, but also hiding yourself.
