From the Goetia: “…appeareth in the Form of a Stock-Dove, speaking with a voice hoarse, but yet subtle. His Office is to take away the Sight, Hearing, or Understanding of any Man or Woman at the command of the Exorcist; and to steal money out of the houses of Kings, and to carry it again in 1,200 years. If commanded he will fetch Horses at the request of the Exorcist, or any other thing. But he must first be commanded into a Triangle, or else he will deceive him, and tell him many Lies. He can discover all things that are Hidden, and not kept by Wicked Spirits. He giveth good Familiars, sometimes.”
Connolly says Shax is a gift giver. In this regard, it is in respect of bringing something or someone into your life, or you’ll find a way to obtain the thing you want.
We often talk about asking the Daemons to do particular things or bring things to us, and we sometimes think that may be in the manner of physically bringing things, like gold, to you, and just dump it in front of you. It doesn’t actually happen that way. What does take place is they will provide you with the means to actually find your way to that thing that you want to obtain, and this is very much what we’re talking about here, with Shax being a gift giver.
So Shax will bring you the things you want, but in a way that allows you or teachers you to actually get it yourself, and opens up those avenues for you to be able to do so.
Connolly also says that Shax may take things away temporarily until you learn to appreciate them. Makes ure you appreciate the gifts that have been given to you.
Jehannum says that Shax can remove or grant understanding, perception and memory. Can align one with their Higher Self and True Will. A useful aid in shadowmancy, mirrormancy, nature magic, pyromancy, rune casting, hydromancy, scrying and tarot divination, and can initiate the witch into faery and nature magic. The Goetia Ritual says in relation to the Dove that the appearance operates as distraction, pointing to a signifier for the spirit of light with attributes of innocence, gentleness, and peace, when in fact, a more sinister intent and nature is at work; like a great bee come from some field where the honey is full of wanton poison.
